A sustainable social enterprise is no longer a distant dream and Jacqueline Novogratz has stood as a beacon for it. With her strategy of ‘patient capital’ – that involves taking high risks for the long term to bridge the gap between philanthropy and the scale of the market-based approach – she has created high social impact models. From nine ambulances to 3000, Ziqitza Health Care Limited has come a long way by providing trustworthy, efficient and quick emergency medical services across many states of India. On the night of 26th November 2008, ZHL was the first ambulance to respond to the emergency, which drove us to think that we must be doing something right. With Public-Private Partnership and investments from Acumen that inspired other investors like American Medical Response Inc, HDFC, IDFC, and India Value Fund, ZHL envisions better accessibility, affordability, and efficiency in the emergency healthcare sector across the rural as well as urban areas of India.
